The Tourism Productivity Nexus (TPN) held its third MaTEx Committee Meeting of the year, focusing on the renewal of MaTEx Business Certifications for 13 companies from Adventure Tourism Operators (ATO), Homestay and Kampungstay Owners/Operators (HKO), Travel Agency Companies (TAC), Product/Site Operators (PSO), and Business Event Venues (BEV). Out of these, 12 companies received unanimous endorsement from the committee members, while one company is scheduled for an upcoming site evaluation to finalize its result. Below are the companies endorsed in the third meeting:
1. Doth Four Seven Resources (ATO)
2. HILOADNA Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd (ATO)
3. Jane's Homestay (HKO)
4. Nooraini Homestay (HKO)
5. Yahabibi Travel Sdn Bhd (TAC)
6. Damai Beach Resort (BEV)
7. Damai Lagoon Resort (BEV)
8. Grand Margherita Hotel (BEV)
9. Raia Hotel and Convention Centre (BEV)
10. Serapi Hotel (BEV)
11. Damai Golf and Country Club (PSO)
12. Sarawak Cultural Village (PSO)
During the meeting, a Risk-Based Certification Process was proposed. This approach allows well-established companies with valid licenses, certifications from recognized bodies, and a strong digital presence to bypass site assessments (except for ATO), requiring only committee approval and endorsement.
Adopting a risk-based certification process significantly enhances productivity by streamlining the renewal procedure for credible companies. By reducing redundancy and resource expenditure, the process allows for faster decision-making and ensures efficient allocation of resources. Committee members can dedicate more time and effort to companies requiring detailed evaluations, ensuring a thorough and focused certification process.
Additionally, this approach fosters a culture of compliance and operational excellence, as companies are encouraged to maintain high standards, including robust digital visibility, which supports transparency and accessibility. By minimizing delays in business operations and aligning with national productivity goals, the risk-based process helps boost overall efficiency and competitiveness in the tourism industry.
