"The Industrialised Building System (IBS), which focuses on prefabrication and standardisation, has demonstrated its potential to enhance productivity by shortening construction timelines, reducing waste, and addressing labour shortages. Accelerating its adoption can drive substantial productivity gains, requiring robust policy support and greater industry collaboration. However, challenges such as contract and payment methods, high initial costs, limited expertise, and fragmented industry practices hinder wider implementation. Resistance to change and insufficient technological integration also slow its impact.
Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), through the Construction & Built Environment Productivity Nexus (COBEPN), in collaboration with the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), is actively reviewing the current conditions of IBS contracts, payment provisions, and other relevant clauses to promote greater adoption of IBS among industry stakeholders.
