Driving Productivity: MPC's Digital Lean Initiatives Transform Smart Factories

24 July 2024, Petaling Jaya – In a strategic move to enhance the country's productivity, the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) is spearheading efforts to establish Smart Factories among high-potential manufacturers in Malaysia through a cutting-edge digital lean business approach SMART FACTORY: Digital Lean For Business Excellence (DLBE).

MPC Director General, Zahid Ismail, highlighted the transformative power of digital lean in identifying potential areas for improvement via data mining and real-time monitoring, leading to profitable outcomes for organizations. MPC's DLBE training programs aim to enhance workforce skills, equipping employees with proficiency in advanced smart manufacturing systems and driving company growth.

"MPC believes that digital lean is crucial for cultivating productivity improvements and business excellence. By leveraging continuous monitoring and real-time data acquisition, we can transform skilled engineers into innovative problem solvers. The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) underscores the importance of developing a highly skilled workforce to drive economic growth and socio-economic development”, he stated.

MPC Director, Saliza Saari, who leads the MPC DLBE flagship initiative, encouraged interested companies to approach MPC or gather more information from the MPC DLBE road tour and MPC website. Participating companies must undergo a DLBE self-diagnosis to determine their level of technology adoption (Level 1: Basic, Level 2: Intermediate, or Level 3: Advanced). The self-diagnosis results will guide MPC interventions, including HRDF-claimable training or the implementation of smart solutions, before assessing Smart Factory star ratings.

Manufacturers can revolutionise their operations by embracing Digital Lean Business, IoT, and Industry 4.0 technologies. This approach enhances product quality, minimizes downtime, and optimises processes through real-time data acquisition and lean analysis. Continuous improvement and innovation are fostered, leading to streamlined operations, waste reduction, and improved efficiency. The result is significant cost savings and increased profitability. Additionally, adopting digital lean principles promotes sustainable smart manufacturing by optimising resource usage and reducing environmental impact, ensuring long-term business success and a competitive edge in the market.

With the launch of the DLBE initiatives, MPC is committed to guiding Malaysian manufacturers towards becoming world-class smart factories. This initiative not only boosts productivity but also ensures long-term economic growth and enhances Malaysia's competitiveness on the global stage.
