The Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), in collaboration with the Chemical Productivity Nexus (CPN) and industry leaders, has introduced the Dangerous Goods Driver Training Programme (DGDT). This initiative aims to elevate safety, efficiency, and sustainability in transporting hazardous materials nationwide.
The DGDT programme sets new benchmarks for competence, ensuring professionalism among drivers handling dangerous chemicals. Aligned with the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Goods in Transit (AFAFGIT) Protocol 9, it equips drivers with essential skills to safely transport hazardous goods, enhancing road safety and environmental protection.
Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Noor Sany, CPN Champion, emphasised the critical importance of safe hazardous materials transport: “This programme will equip drivers with expertise to handle sensitive goods, enhancing overall performance and image of Malaysia’s transportation industry.”
The comprehensive curriculum covers driver responsibilities, maintenance, safety protocols, and quality assurance. Training includes classroom sessions and practical exercises, meeting rigorous industry standards developed with input from key stakeholders.
By meeting industry demands, DGDT ensures drivers are well-prepared with current knowledge and practices, bolstering employability and career advancement. Full implementation is slated for 2024, with certified drivers expected to commence operations shortly thereafter.
